Trinity Health Livingston
We are the only training program at Trinity Health Livingston Hospital which provides residents access to numerous procedures and direct learning with teaching attendings.
Sports Medicine
The Livingston FMR program has a robust musculoskeletal curriculum and many community opportunities for sports coverage. Interested residents cover a local high school through football and wrestling seasons and all sports at NAIA Cleary University in Howell. The residents rotate through the training room at Cleary and are involved in pre-participation exams. Our weekly teaching sessions regularly include sports and musculoskeletal topics.
Addiction Medicine
Treatment of substance use disorders is taught in the family medicine center, on inpatient and in didactics. Residents have opportunity to further explore and learn about the field of addiction medicine through a rotation with the ACGME-accredited Addiction Medicine fellowship at TH Ann Arbor.
Lifestyle Medicine
Opportunity to participate in the ACLM residency curriculum in lifestyle medicine. We also offer a multidisciplinary elective rotation.
Clinical Sim Labs
We have a state-of-the-art Clinical Simulation Labs at Trinity Health Ann Arbor and Trinity Health Livingston that offer training in various aspects of procedures commonly encountered in primary care and emergency medical management.
Community Involvement
Residents participate in various community events throughout the academic year and collaborate with local agencies to benefit our patients.
Integrated Primary Care
Trinity Health Family Medicine provides integrated primary care. Integrated Primary Care is the model for providing collaborative, interdisciplinary services to patients in the primary care setting. At the Trinity Health Family Medicine Residency program, we have a Behavioral Health Coach, social workers and a care manager available to see patients with physicians to provide coordinated care regardless of ability to pay. This interdisciplinary team is educational for both patients and physicians in highlighting brief methods to assess and manage the complex bio-psychosocial problems that often present in primary care.
Physician Wellness
We take physician wellness by offering team building, socialization, educational workshops on health promotion, and individualized resources as needed. We make physician wellness a part of the everyday conversation.
MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine GMEA
We attend the Graduate Medical Education Alliance (GMEA) Family Medicine educational events.
Mackinac Island
The Trinity Health Family Medicine program has a unique opportunity to staff the medical clinic on Mackinac Island. Residents can elect to spend two weeks staffing the medical clinic on the island where the only access to the mainland is by ferry or helicopter.
Teaching Involvement
Residents are involved in teaching 3rd and 4th-year medical students during their rotations in the office and inpatient services. Trinity Health Michigan has a base hospital affiliation with Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Global Health
From its inception, the Family Medicine Residency program at Trinity Health Livingston Hospital has recognized the importance of serving the disadvantaged both in the United States and abroad. This includes a solid knowledge base of local diseases and culture, the skills to provide medical care, education and social support and the attitudes to be open, professional and caring for a diverse population. Previous examples have included Uganda, Peru, Fiji, Nicaragua, Philippines, Guatemala, and Haiti.
