Trinity Health Michigan has the personable, patient-first environment I was looking for in a residency program. I consider my faith and my family to be my top priorities and it was evident from the beginning my values aligned with this organization. I feel very lucky to be surrounded by such quality humans here at Trinity Health Michigan.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

I thoroughly enjoy beating my friends and family at golf; I am really happy with any activity outdoors. I am also a new, but avid, reader - I usually have 2-3 books going at a time. Playing in my church softball league and participating in a Bible study with my friends is what makes my cup full!

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose Trinity Health Grand Rapids (THGR) because of interprofessional collaboration the pharmacy team has with the providers and nurses. I was drawn toward the many niche areas such as transplant and HIV that THGR has to offer as well as the various patient populations the area has to offer.

The pharmacy team is an extremely supportive environment and truly want the residents to achieve the most out of their residency program. I look forward to becoming a part of the Trinity team!

Hobbies/interests outside of work

I love spending time outdoors when I am not at work. I am either spending time at the barn riding horses or going for hikes in the Greater Grand Rapids Area. I love being able to go to the various farmers markets in the area as well. Other hobbies include baking, reading and painting when time allows.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

Trinity Health Grand Rapids has always felt like home to me. I have had the opportunity to spend time as a learner in various settings at Trinity Health, and every team I worked with had been so welcoming and went out of the way to put my education first. Each preceptor served as a positive role model for prioritizing patient care and forming meaningful relationships with every patient they interact with.

I am grateful that I have been given the opportunity to continue to learn from a team of compassionate educators, and I hope I can serve as a role model for future learners.

Hobbies/interests outside of work

On rainy days, I love to read and do puzzles with my 2 cats Emmett and Cashew. When the weather is nice, you'll typically find me at the tennis courts, on a walk, or working on DIY projects with my family.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose the Trinity Health Grand Rapids PGY-1 program because of the pharmacists I interacted with throughout the interview process. Every pharmacy member I spoke to outlined that this program provides continuous support to the resident, while also providing the academic rigor needed to grow as a pharmacist.

I believe having this balance creates an environment where you can be comfortable with being uncomfortable, where you can push past your own limits and feel the support from your team while doing so. When the program demonstrated this aspect, it made it an easy decision for me to choose Trinity Health Grand Rapids.

Hobbies/interests outside of work

Outside of work I enjoy participating in any kind of athletic event (sports, gym, etc.) and spending time with my wife Valerie and our dog Bear. I also take time to play video games with my friends and practice playing the drums.

If I am able to take extended time for vacation, I enjoy travelling to my cabin near Traverse City to go boating on the surrounding lakes.

Trinity Health Grand Rapids was such a warm, welcoming environment for learning when I did rotations at this location as a student, and I knew this would be a great fit for me. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the preceptors' coaching styles and the level of support offered. Being a part of an organization that truly puts patients first is such an honor and will help me achieve my goals of positively impacting healthcare.

My hobbies include playing tennis, reading, spending time with my cats, and doing just about anything outside. I love being able to go for walks, especially by the water. Binging horror movies is also a favorite activity of mine.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose Trinity Health Grand Rapids (THGR) because of the unique variety of educational opportunities and experiences combined with the supportive culture I felt during the interview process. I knew that everyone here would be encouraging and supportive throughout my growth as a pharmacist. They also have a really great infectious disease program and transplant rotation, which aligned with my interests well.

THGR is a great fit for me and I'm excited to continue to learn with a great team truly focused on patient care.

Hobbies/interests outside of work

I really enjoy spending time with my friends and family, whether we're going out to Meijer Gardens or watching a movie at home. I also like to play video games in my free time, usually on my Switch or PS4. Creating various Spotify playlists is another hobby of mine; I have playlists for different moods, friends and genres.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose Trinity Health Grand Rapids (THGR) because of the pharmacy-forward culture that encourages constant learning and interprofessional collaboration. This hospital is an integral part of the Grand Rapids community, and I am passionate about joining a legacy of compassionate patient care in my home of West Michigan.

They also offer very unique rotation experiences like Renal Transplant and HIV clinic which align with my pharmaceutical interests. Matching here was a blessing, and I am excited to be a part of the THGR team!

Hobbies/interests outside of work

I love spending time outside with my husband, Samual, and our two silly dogs, Django and Sullivan. I also enjoy checking out local eateries and coffee shops in the west Michigan community. After completing my PGY-1 residency, I would love to travel more around the country, perhaps even head overseas to Europe!

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I was drawn to Trinity Health Grand Rapids for the variety of educational experiences and strong preceptor support offered to PGY1 residents. It was very clear early on that the pharmacy presence is a strong and valued part of the healthcare team. Each person I have interacted with has been welcoming and dedicated to patient care. The additional opportunities available through teaching, precepting, and research will be invaluable to my training as a new pharmacist.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose to pursue a residency at Trinity Health Grand Rapids for many reasons. The hospital offered unique experiences in all my interest areas as well as additional rotations that excited me for further growth and learning. I also got an immediate sense that the pharmacy team was more like a family. As a new pharmacist, I knew I would be incredibly supported and encouraged throughout the year by them.

Lastly, I loved that Trinity Health Grand Rapids was a smaller community-focused hospital with advanced opportunities in research and patient care on academic medical teams.

In my free time, I really enjoy being outside hiking, kayaking, camping, or walking my two dogs. I also really like reading, attempting to keep my house plants alive, playing the piano and making playlists on Spotify for different friends/occasions.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

Trinity Health Grand Rapids was a no-brainer for me when looking for a residency program that aligned with my goals and interests and the environment I wanted to work in. With the variety of different and unique experiences (psych, HIV, SOT and inpatient neurology) I knew that I would have an abundance of opportunities for learning in areas I may not have had previous exposure to.

The greatest influence THGR had on me though was most definitely the down-to-earth and inviting culture. Every interaction I had with the team was beyond welcoming and supportive. They made it clear from the very beginning that a residency here is one that focuses on fostering growth and developing relationships.

Hobbies/interests outside of work

I really enjoy being up north with my family and friends! Being able to go for a swim in the Grand Traverse Bay or go wine tasting with my girls are probably at the top of my list. Aside from that, I love going mountain biking, binge watching TV shows with my husband, and playing with my two cats, Gangster & Gracie. My dream travel destination is Japan and I hope to go there shortly after completing my PGY-1 experience.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose Trinity Health Grand Rapids for a multitude of reasons. One of the important aspects that stood out was the positive culture conveyed not only with the pharmacy staff but within the interprofessional environment. I also was excited to see the diverse rotations that were offered not only aligning with my own interest but opportunities that could push me to become an even better pharmacist in the long run (inpatient neurology or psych to name a few).

Lastly, when discussing research and rotation responsibilities you know you have a very supportive preceptor team behind you along the way.

I really enjoy golfing with my friends during the summer its always fun (or maybe not depending on the day) to get out on the links. When not playing golf, I spend my free time looking for unique places to eat, playing euchre or watching movies.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I was first introduced to Mercy Health Saint Mary's in pharmacy school during a direct introductory pharmacy practice experience. I absolutely loved the relationships that the pharmacists had with the physicians, and how well they were able to work as a team. Additionally, the pharmacy staff is exceedingly welcoming and approachable to support a successful learning environment.

Lastly, the program is extremely organized with clear expectations; several of my questions were addressed in the residency manual, which allowed me to ask questions and discover more about specific rotations. I quickly identified that Saint Mary's PGY1 aligned perfectly with my professional interests.

Hobbies

My favorite thing to do outside of pharmacy is spend time with my family. Some of the things I enjoy most are playing card/board games and taking small vacations; anything that allows us to slow down and appreciate the little moments in life. I also love almost anything around water such as going to the beach, tubing or relaxing on a boat.

I was a technician at Mercy Health Saint Mary's for over two years and have seen many residents graduate from the program. I knew that it was rigorous but worthwhile, and it does a great job of preparing pharmacists for the future. The pharmacy staff here is also like a family, and I continue to enjoy being a part of it!

I enjoy playing on co-ed sports teams through the Grand Rapids Sport and Social Club as well as binge-watching shows on Netflix. When I can, I like to travel up north to my parents' cottage and go boating out on Torch Lake!

I chose Mercy Health Saint Mary's because of the excellent pharmacy staff/preceptors and the wide variety of interesting elective rotations. I had the benefit of being on rotation at Saint Mary's in my fourth year of pharmacy school and I was very impressed with how welcoming everyone was. While on rotation, I felt like a valuable asset to the pharmacy team and the inpatient medicine team to which I was assigned.

Hobbies

I love playing basketball and watching games – NBA and college ball. I also really enjoy hitting the couch after work to keep up with/re-watch my favorite TV shows. When the spirit moves me, I also tolerate running and lifting.

After working out, it's hard to pass up a quick drink and bite to eat with friends at the bars on Wealthy Street to treat myself for being good and working out. It's super important to keep an active life outside of pharmacy!

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

Mercy Health Saint Mary's offers many learning opportunities in the areas that I am interested in, such as Oncology and Infectious Disease. The staff here at Saint Mary's is also very welcoming and experienced in a variety of specialties. I appreciated the flexibility of the program and the variety of both ambulatory care and inpatient experiences offered to the residents.

Hobbies

Outside of residency, I enjoy working out after work for stress relief. I also spend a lot of time with my family who lives across the state. During the summer months, I love traveling to Northern Michigan for long weekends. I also occasionally partake in snowboarding during the winter.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

The program at Mercy Health Saint Mary's has many unique experiences offered that specifically support my infectious diseases interest. These experiences include HIV, oncology, and renal transplant. In addition, MHSM provided the opportunity for me to take an elective in infectious diseases, allowing me to focus on ID consult in addition to antimicrobial stewardship. These opportunities have helped me in pursuing a PGY2 in infectious diseases.

Hobbies

I enjoy playing outdoor sports including volleyball and soccer, reading, and playing video games. Being in Grand Rapids has also allowed me to stay close to my friends and family.

Critical Care and Adult Medicine (pursuing a PGY2 in Critical Care)

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I grew up in Rockford, Michigan which is very close to Grand Rapids. I wanted to stay local for my PGY1 residency because I love the area and all that the west side has to offer. I chose Saint Mary's because of the organization's culture. I could tell after my onsite interview that all the preceptors were very personable. In addition, our colleagues take the time to say good morning or hello in the hall which I find welcoming. The preceptors have strong credentials which translate into their clinical practice models. Finally, there is project and research mentorship along the way which I strongly appreciate.

Hobbies

Outside of work, I enjoy socializing with friends and family. I try to have dinners and get-togethers with those close to me on a regular basis. As a stress release outlet I participate in CrossFit at a local box in town. I also love to travel at any opportunity; my ultimate goal is to travel to Australia once residency is complete. This year has been a little extra chaotic since I am planning a wedding on top of residency responsibilities; there is always something to plan or discuss!
