I spend time outside of work supporting my kids in their sports and activities. We enjoy anything outdoors and love traveling, specifically sampling food and wine from around the world. I try to stay as physically active as much as possible, currently even participating in a ballet class. I am interested in the history of both medicine and religion and am working my way through reading The Bible.

Why I chose to practice in Muskegon

I was assigned to Muskegon as a base student in medical school and ended up staying here for residency and, ultimately, to practice. My husband and I decided that West Michigan is a wonderful place to raise a family, and we love the life we have built in this beautiful part of our state. I was fortunate to join a strong practice with physicians who truly care for the whole patient and am privileged to work with and learn from them daily.

I have been teaching in the Family Medicine residency program since 2006 and I became program director in 2012. I attended Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and my undergraduate was also at Michigan State University. My wife and I have raised all  three of our wonderful children in this wonderful supportive community.

In my spare time, I enjoy being out on my boat with family and friends, camping and traveling with my family.

Why I chose to practice in Muskegon

My wife matched into residency in the area and we fell in love with West Michigan. I understood the need for primary care in the area as well and wanted to serve this community as best I could. I have always enjoyed teaching, especially medical education, and saw an opportunity to become affiliated with the Fruitport Family Medicine residency and continue this passion of mine.

In addition to my medical degree, I also have my PhD in genetics and am excited to help residents with their research projects as well as undertaking some projects of my own. I have a special interest in adolescents, women's health and addiction medicine. In addition to seeing my own patients and teaching at Fruitport Family Medicine, I also help with our inpatient service and our OB track.

Why I chose to practice in Muskegon

I chose to stay in Muskegon following my training here because of the diverse pathology to learn and gain experience from, but also the inviting culture of physicians in this area. I was also excited about the opportunity to practice both hospital medicine and perform deliveries as part of my career in Family Medicine. My husband and I also love everything the west side of Michigan has to offer: lakes, beaches, trails, hunting/camping areas, slower pace of living and plenty of breweries!

I moved to West Michigan in 2002 for residency, I quickly began to enjoy the area and did not want to move away. I was able to stay involved in medical education at graduation and transition to a full-time education roll in 2013.
