Addiction Medicine Fellowship


Grand Rapids Medical Education

Flexibility will be given to the fellow in order to achieve learning which is conducive with future career goals.

Core rotations include:

  • Recovery Medicine of West Michigan (outpatient clinic)
  • Emergency Department
  • Inpatient Psychiatric Unit
  • Inpatient Psychiatric Consult Liaison Service
  • Inpatient Hospice and Palliative Medicine Consult Service
  • Outpatient Pain Medicine
  • Methadone Clinic
  • Criminal Legal
  • Community Mental Health

Longitudinal Rotation

As part of the Trinity Health Grand Rapids Addiction Medicine Fellowship, the Longitudinal Addiction Rotation offers fellows a diverse immersive experience across, clinical, community and legal settings that impact the care of individuals with substance use disorders. Fellows will engage in direct patient care alongside physicians in Physical Rehabilitation Medicine (PMR), and outpatient psychiatry, gaining hands-on experience managing co-occurring pain and psychiatric conditions. 

They will participate in treatment court sessions, collaborating with judges, attorneys, and court teams to supports individuals navigating recovery within the criminal-legal system. Additionally, fellows will observe and interface with community-based organizations, and ancillary services addressing addiction-related needs.

Throughout the rotation, fellows will enhance their ability to deliver compassionate patient-centered care in varied environments, deepen their knowledge of adjacent medical specialties, and develop a systems-based understanding of how healthcare, community services, and the judicial system intersect in the care of people with substance use disorder.
