Grand Groups

Grand Girlfriends™ and Grand Guys™ were created to bring women and men together to support programs and services that improve the health and enhance the lives of people served by Trinity Health.
With a one-time $1,000 commitment, members of Grand Girlfriends™ and Grand Guys™ generously contribute to their Grand Group endowment. Once a year, members vote to choose how to direct the interest earned on the group's pooled resources through an annual grants award process.
As a Grand Girlfriend™ or Grand Guy™, you get to be part of a collaborative, informed and empowered group that will receive invitations to special events featuring topics on the latest in health care and important happenings at Trinity Health Grand Rapids Hospital.
For more information on becoming a Grand Girlfriend™ or Grand Guy™, please contact Kelly Obenauer at Saint Mary's Foundation at kelly.obenauer@trinity-health.org or 616-685-1427.

Grand Impact
In 2024, Saint Mary’s Foundation Grand Girlfriends™ awarded the following grants to programs and services at Trinity Health Grand Rapids Hospital:
- The Maternal Infant Health Program was awarded $2,625 to purchase educational toys for babies in the program. The toys will allow families to practice skills with their babies at home. Additionally, the toys will also be a tool to support accurate evaluation of the infant’s development by the home-visiting team, ensuring early intervention for delays and linkage to appropriate community resources and programs.
- The Breast Center was awarded $2,800 to provide hot/cold packs to help bring comfort to their patients. The purpose of the hot/cold packs is to bring the patient comfort and potentially help prevent a hematoma after a breast procedure.
- The Rockford Emergency Department was awarded $3,000 to support the purchase of distraction toys for pediatric patients. Having the distraction toys will support the child’s developmental coping skills during an Emergency Department visit.
In 2024, Saint Mary’s Foundation Grand Guys™ awarded the following grants to programs and services at Trinity Health Grand Rapids Hospital:
- The Heart and Vascular Department was awarded $11,480 to purchase a Kosmos Plus ultrasound system which will help ensure timeliness of placement of ultrasound IVs and of patients receiving their prescribed IV fluids and medications. Hauenstein 2 was awarded $4,832 to purchase Primo wedges to turn patients from side to side. Hospitalized patients are vulnerable to pressure injury for many reasons, but immobility is one of the largest factors. Frequent turning to offload pressure is the most important intervention nurses can perform to reduce this risk.
- Nursing Education was awarded $1,048.92 to fund 3 IV task trainers. With the purchase of three more task trainers, colleagues will have more hands-on time with the equipment. The additional equipment will help prevent wait times and back up in General Nursing Orientation and RN Residency Equipment Blitz.
Since inception, collectively, the Grand Groups have awarded more than $310,000 to Trinity Health Grand Rapids programs through the Grand Girlfriends and Grand Guys Endowment Funds! What a Grand impact!
